- Current situation
Aghtapa caravanserai has not been repaired or restored because it is an example of Azerbaijani history and architecture in Iravan. New buildings were built on the site of the ruined caravanserai.
- Information
Aghtapa caravanserai is located on the northern shore of Lake Goycha, 10 kilometers northeast of Chubukhlu pass, 2-3 km north of Aghtala village, on the slope of a not very high hill. The remains of the XI-XII century caravansary complex in the territory of this village, the ruins
of which remained untouched until the deportation of 1987-1991, are material evidence that questions the at least 1000- year history of Aghtapa. In official sources, the name of the village is found for the first time in the documents of the Shah Abbas era, and from those records it is known that Agtepe was one of the Goycha villages subordinated to the Karabakh (Ganja) baylarbay. In 1828, the name of Goycha village was not mentioned in the list of the newly created Armenian province, which indicates that this village was destroyed between 1826 and 1828. Although the details of this tragedy are not reflected in the official sources, one undeniable truth is clear:
the responsibility of the grave historical crime, such as the erasure of the Turkish village of Aghtapa, rests with the Armenians and their patrons, the Christian world.Caravansara had an important place in the khanate as a place where local and foreign merchants stayed and stored their goods
