Current situation

Bazirgan Pir, one of the centers of sacred lore of the Azerbaijani population, was one of the centers most visited by the people of the village and region. After the deportation of Azerbaijanis from their historical- ethnic lands in January 1989, it was not possible to visit Bazirgan pir.

Information

According to the folk custom, when the caravan road passed by Gimi hill and reached Bazirgan pilgrimage, the caravan leader would immediately stop the caravan, people would take the loads of camels, horses, and mules, water the animals, and make it possible for them to rest. At this time, the neighing of horses, the sound of mules, and the clamor of people were mixed together. Among people, the visit to Bazirgan was considered a test visit. Near it, far apart from each other, gushed Dav they would slaughter the sacrifice they had brought, put a vow there, and invite passers-by to enjoy the sacrificial meat. According to custom, they would sleep here at night and continue their journey as soon as the morning dawned. The dream determined whether or not the intention to become true⁵.

The village is located 14 km northwest of the district center, on the Turkish border. It is marked on the 3 verst map³ of the Caucasus. The inhabitants of the village were only Azerbaijanis. In Armenian sources, it is indicated that Garapapags lived in the village⁴. Garapapags are one of the ethnic groups of Azerbaijanis. A toponym is an anthroponym formed from a person's name.
