- Information
The caves located at the foot of the mountain were used to protect the population from wars and Armenian attacks. The natural cave was expanded by the surrounding population and became a place of refuge for hundreds of people. In a source from 1728, it is mentioned as the name of a village in Karbi district of Iravan province. The real name is Bash Sis. In the source from 1590, the name of the village is Bashsiz, and in the source from 1727, the name of the village is Bash Sis. Sis is the name of a city and county in the province of Cilicia in southern Asia Minor. Sis and Masis were the names of two castles in the south of Turkey in the Garaman province in the Middle Ages. It is first known in the sources from the XVI century. The village was formed as a result of the settlement of Turks who came from Sis. Later, only Azerbaijanis lived in the village.
According to the Armenian source of the XVII century, Sis was also called Kozan. The name of the Guzanli tribe that lived in Karabakh in the 19th century in Azerbaijan is related to the name of the Kozan district (the name of this tribe is reflected in the name of the village of Guzanli in Aghdam district).
