Information

Gayangala (Armenian – Gayanberd) is a medieval fortress. It is located in the southwestern part of Hachasu village of Karvansara district, on the forested peak of Naltokan mountain, in a scattered state. Below the castle, on the northern foot of the mountain, there is a small chapel. The name of the village was changed in 1920 by the kalka method to Achajur (Hachasu). It is located 17 km from the district center.

The toponym Hachasu is derived from the combination of the word "hacha" which means "the place where hacha-making begins" and the word "su"which means "river" in Turkish. The village was named Hachasu because it was built where the main river splits into several branches.which means "river" in Turkish.
