Gravestone statues in Zangilar village

Zangibasar ma­hal, Zangibasar district, in the Zangilar villa­ge (Donuzye­yan, Masjidli).

The name of  Donuzyeyan vil­lage was chan­­ged to Zan­­gilar on 03.01.1935, and to Zorak from 19.04.1991.

Architec­ture

Statues of hor­ses, rams and camels re­mained in the ancient ceme­tery until re­cently. They are presented as Ar­menian mo­nu­ments.

Mamluk Turks in Arab countries are Gipchak tribes. So, the Zangi are one of the Gipchak tribes. Oghuz Gipchak Turks settled here., There were various statues on the graves in the ancient village cemetery. These have attracted attention with their magnificence. The image of a sword was clearly visible on one of the graves. It is said, that grave with a horse statue in the cemetery is belonged to the village struggler Mu­ham­mad, and the tomb with a ram statue belonged to Palazgulag struggler. A statue was erected to them for their skill.

The toponym Zangilar is also of Turkish ori­gin. The names of Turkic origin are related to the family na­me. F. Sumer writes: “Algeria and Syria's ru­lers, were also from the Tur­kish Mamluk family”.
