- Current situation
The ruins of the village and the tombstones were partially intact until the deportation of Azerbaijanis in 1987–1991. After the deportation of Azerbaijanis, the inscriptions and images on the coffins were erased by the Armenians, and elements were added in an attempt to Armenianize them, as they bore traces of Turkic-Islamic culture.
- Information
The total area of the cemetery in the village of Naraduz is about seven hectares and there are about a thousand graves here. The cemetery includes Muslim and Christian graves covering the period from the Middle Ages to the 17th-18th centuries. More than half of the thousand monuments here are chest graves from the Islamic period, on which inscriptions are carved in the Arabic alphabet. There are also depictions reflecting the activities of the deceased on the chest gravestones. This also provides an opportunity to learn about their life, livelihood, and culture. Most of the gravestones are decorated with unique, delicate, and beautiful patterns. The tombstones, which come in various sizes, are made of hard rock. Inscriptions and images are carved into the stone using drilling and cutting tools.
The cemetery in the village of Naraduz is not only the richest in terms of Islamic monuments, but also a historical place with material and cultural heritage from the Albanian and Oghuz Turkic eras.
