Information

One of the rare photos showing the Gumri Mosque was taken in 1869-1872. Most of the buildings located around the mosque consist of Azerbaijani houses built in the style of eastern architecture and buildings of various origins. The neighborhood where the mosque was located was one of the busiest areas of the city in terms of trade and business. In the photo, the commercial district of Gumri, Surb Nishan Church, Gumri Mosque and Synagogue can be seen. The mosque added another beauty to the appearance and architecture of the city with its size and grandeur. During the Soviet rule, the mosque became a ruin because it was not allowed to restore it. The remains of the mosque, which was half-destroyed during the Soviet era, remained until the deportation of Azerbaijanis in 1987-1991.

The Gyumri Mosque is important as a historical monument that keeps the Azerbaijani heritage alive in this area since ancient times.
