- Current situation
Aghchirag village was liquidated by Armenians in order to erase the traces of Azerbaijanis. The cuneiform inscriptions in the village, the ruins of which remain to this day, were taken to Iravan, where they are presented as "Armenian monuments" in the museums there. The architectural monuments were destroyed and the remains remained.
- Information
The ruins of Aghchirag village are located 16-18 kilometers southwest of Delikdash village (now Tsakkar village of Martuni district). Historical-architectural monuments and ancient cuneiform inscriptions existed in the territory of this village. The 18th-century author Simon Iravanli referred to the fact that these inscriptions and architectural monuments belong to the period before Christ, and indicated Aghchirag as one of the oldest villages of Goycha. In 1828, Goycha district, which was given to the administration of the newly created Armenian province, had the name Aghchirag among the 59 villages that were considered suitable for living at that time. In the list compiled by I.Chopin, the name of this village was mentioned as "Aghgirag". In the documents of 1831, it was noted that there were 321 Turkish people (57 households) in the village. The name of Aghchirag is no longer mentioned in the documents of 1873 and the subsequent periods.
Aghchirag is one of the Azerbaijani hamlets whose inhabitants were displaced from the village after being subjected to occupation and genocide in the middle of XIX century.
