- Information
Hnevank (Old Temple) temple is located near Kurtan village. The Albanian temple dating back to the 10th century is located on a hill within the valley, near the confluence of the Kolagiran and Gargar rivers. The temple was completely rebuilt by the Liparites who were expelled from Georgia to Armenia at the end of the XII century. During the construction period, signs in Georgian were hung here and inscriptions were written. There are gavits and various service buildings scattered around the temple. Along the edge of the valley to the east, not far behind the temple, there are large but now destroyed Albanian tombstones.
Only Azerbaijanis lived in the area. Armenians started coming to Kurtan village after the Treaty of Turkmenchay.
