After the mass deportation of Western Azerbaijanis in 1987-1991, the Orukdash cyclops building was appropriated by Armenians and is presented as an "Armenian monument".
- Information
The cyclops building "Orukdash" (Horukdash) is located in the village of Haggikhli. Haggikhli was a village inhabited by Azerbaijanis in the Ijevan (Karvansara) district of the Armenian SSR, on the left slope of the Aghstafachay valley, 12 km southwest of the district center. Orukdash is one of the ancient monuments. The stones used in this building are estimated to weigh more than two tons each. Due to its characteristic features, this building is a cyclopean building. Cyclopean buildings belong to the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age. It is assumed that these cyclopean buildings were built for the purpose of defense against enemy attacks. The Azerbaijani population was 463 in 1905 and 412 in 1931. In 1919, 540 Azerbaijanis lived in Haggikhli. Androniko's gang gathered the people in the houses in the name of peace, and after closing the doors, they set fire to the houses. 158 people were mercilessly destroyed in one night. Some of those who survived in 1922 returned to the village. In 1987-1991, Azerbaijanis were again victims of Armenian aggression and were forcibly removed from the village.
The Orukdash cyclops building is considered one of the oldest buildings in the historical lands belonging to Azerbaijanis. It was built to defend against enemy attacks.
