- Information
The Shikhovuz bridge, located on the Shikhovuz river, was built in the style of Azerbaijani and Eastern architectture. The single arched stone bridge is similar to the bridges in Azerbaijan from the architectural point of view. The lower round part of the bridge, built from large hewn river stone, is woven in an oval-circular manner with sawn stones. The bridge is 3.5-4 meters high, 12-15 meters long, and 3-3.5 meters wide. The upper part is in the form of a roof. An ancient sycamore tree stands on the right side of the bridge and its branches shade the bridge. Shikhovuz village is located 23 km from the district center. In the 5-verst map of the Caucasus Shikhauz, in Armenian sources Shikahogh, Shkhavuz are mentioned. 3 Azerbaijanis lived here in 1926.
The toponym "sheikh" is the colloquial word "shikh". was formed from the ethnonym "ovuz" (dialectal form of the Oghuz ethnonym) reflecting the name of the Oghuz Turkic tribe. It is an ethnotoponym. It is a structurally complex toponym.
