Information

The cave called "Sultan's cave" is located in Dashkand village of Basarkechar district. Under the rocky part of the village there are 7 large and several small caves (zagha) at different distances. One of these zaghas is called "Sultan's zaghas". The cave is very big. It can accommodate a herd of about 800 sheep. Also, on both sides of this cave, there are pavement-like places at a height of 2-6 meters. These sidewalks are like an amphitheater. These facts indicate that ancient people held great celebrations and gatherings in such caves in the past. According to ancient sources, Albanians also had cave temples. In this cave, ancestors were remembered and sacrifices were made to their souls. There was also a cemetery with the graves of their ancestors, which they considered sacred. No one can deny that the cave played the role of protection and shelter in certain periods.

The study of caves is important in terms of studying the history of ancient Azerbaijan in Western Azerbaijan. This cave played the role of protecttion and shelter for Azerbaijanis during Armenian-Azerbaijani conflicts in certain periods.
