Information

According to the assumptions, the Teymurlang fortress was built by Amir Teymur at the end of the 14th century in the area between the villages of Yukhari Akhtala and Boyuk Ayrim. The period when the fortress was built coincides with the period when Amir Teymur lived. Large rocks and river stones were mostly used in the construction of the fortress, located in a high hilly area. Since the fortress was located on the highest peak of the mountain, it was very difficult and dangerous to get to the fortress. The Tivet River flowing below the fortress flowed into the Kura. The purpose of building the fortress was to control both the road and the river. Amir Teymur chose the most suitable place for the fortress in order to protect himself and his soldiers.
The Azerbaijani population, who lived there until 1989, tried to preserve the fortress as a historical monument, collecting the fallen stones of the fortress and storing them inside the fortress. The Armenian state was not interested in repairing the historical fortress, so it did not allocate funds for its repair. The fortress walls are about 1 meter wide and strong, which is why they have survived to this day.

The lands of the village of Yukhari Akhtala have long been the homeland of Turkic tribes. The fortress was built by Amir Temur for the purpose of protection from heavy wars. Later, the fortress and the area were ruled by the Safavids for many years.
