- Information
Ismail Shirvani's caliph, who attracted attention with his activities in the Karabakh region, is Mir Hamza Nigari. He was born in 1805 in Jijimli village of Karabakh Khanate. In his youth, he moved from here to the Turkish city of Sivas to study science, and came to Ismayil Afandi. After completing his scientific and Sufi studies, he returned to Karabakh. As his plans were uncovered while he was preparing for a rebellion against the Russians who had begun to invade Azerbaijan, he fled to Erzurum via Iran. After Sheikh Ismail Shirvani, he continued the task of inviting the people of Amasiya and its surroundings to irsha. Mir Hamza Nigari was buried in Amasiya after his death. One of the disciples of Mir Hamza Nigari, Sheikh Haji Mahmud from Gaza, built a tomb and a mosque on the grave of the sheikh with donations collected from Azerbaijan. Construction of the tomb began in 1876 and was completed in 1895. The tomb of Mir Hamza Efendi, which is tall and has a dome-shaped ceiling, was adjacent to the mosque built in his name.
Mir Hamza Nigari was interested in the concerns of the population and gained influence among the society with his support to them. The tomb built for him shows that Azerbaijanis have a deep historical past here as a nation that produces people with names in the region.
