- Information
Dalikdash Tower is located approximately 1 kilometer west of the modern geographic location of Dalikdash village. Armenian historians themselves have noted in official sources that the ancient fortress belongs to the II millennium BC. About 2 kilometers southwest of the entrance of the Dalikdash cave-passage is a carved castle consisting of several levels in the rock in a ravine surrounded by pitch-black mountains, which is reminiscent of the home of Shoklu Maliy in Dada Gorgud. All these material evidences are important points in terms of studying the role of Dalikdash in the history of the Oghuz Turks. The village is located 9 km from the district center, next to the Dalikdash River, on the shore of Goycha Lake. It is mentioned in the “Irevan province review book” on the 5-verst map of the Caucasus. In a source from 1728, it is mentioned as Dalik Tash in the Goycha district of the Iravan province. Dalikdash is presented as one of the administrative units of Goycha District of Iravan governorate in the records on page 12 of the "Ijmal Daftar of Iravan Governorate" approved by Ahmad Shah Mahmat Khan oghlu in 1728. Sources indicate that another village called Dalik Tash is located in Kirkhbulag district of Irevan province. "Dalikdash" is the name of a rocky mountain. In the list compiled by I. Chopin, Dalikdash's name was listed in the 20th place. In the list, 87 Azerbaijani families (464 people) lived in Dalikdash in 1831, 547 Azerbaijanis and 432 Armenians lived in 1901. As a result of the Armenian genocide in 1918, most of the Azerbaijani population of the village was killed. In 1922, 156 Azerbaijanis returned to the village. In 1931, the number of Azerbaijanis living in Dalikdash was 301. In 1948, Azerbaijanis were deported from the village.
The toponym was formed from the combination of the word "maghara" which means "deep, narrow hole", "dalik" and the word "dash" which means "mountain, rock" in Azerbaijani. It is a toponym with a complex structure based on relief.
