Current situation

The castle was destroyed. Today, ruins of 1 meter and 1.5 meters high are left in some parts of the area where it is located. (Source: photo taken on February 7, 2011). It was adopted by Armenians and presented as an "Armenian monument".

Information

Large rocks were used in the construction of the castle. Brown, orange and yellow stones add special beauty to the visual appearance of the castle. Even the remaining 1- and 1.5-meter-high ruined walls of the castle look magnificent and majestic in the surrounding area of green grass and flowers. The castle is believed to have been built during the Cimmerian era. Gamarli village is located 8 km south of the district center, next to the Boyuk Garasu river. It is marked on the 5 verst map of the Caucasus. There were only 127 Azerbaijanis in the village in 1831, 295 in 1873, 347 in 1886, 408 in 1897, 411 people in 1904, 436 people in 1914, and 425 people in 1916.In 1918, the village was subjected to Armenian aggression and its inhabitants were deported from the historical-ethnic lands of Azerbaijanis, and Armenians relocated from Turkey were placed here.

The toponym Gamar (Kimmer in ancient sources) was formed by adding the suffix "li" to the name of the Turkic tribe and means "the village where the Gamar (Kimmer) tribe lives." It is an ethnotoponym. It is a simple toponym in structure. Gamarli village was an ancient Oghuz homeland. The castle was built for defense purposes.
